subbing

good morning blog! lately, i've tried to avoid those things that tend to take over my life (ex: video games) and leave me oblivious to the world around me. of course, those are always my favorite things, but i guess especially with the job search on reality seems important.

subbing:
subbing is the worst job i have ever done. i've been to schools in Schenectady, on green island, and in voorheesville subbing Spanish, Business Ed., Physics, Special Ed, and Gym. I have yet to even sub in an English class. Here is what most sucks about subbing: most times i am left with these plans that were a torturous afterthought of the teacher and i have to stand up there and make kids believe that this work is actually important. the only names you learn in a 42 minute space of time are those boys who suddenly stand up and start beating the hell out of the girl sitting next to them. believe it or not, the best class that i subbed for was gym. it was also the first time i was able to see the same kid twice. One of the students I had for special ed. had the greatest time once they actually gave him an opportunity to run around. In class he was cursing a mile a minute, and running around everywhere but as soon as he got to play basketball it was like a different kid. i've seen teachers say the most awful things to kids/about kids in the past few weeks.

so anyway, this is probably going to be my job for awhile because there aren't a whole lot of permanent teaching jobs in the middle of a school year. paychecks are nice but i need to stop buying things.
